Catalyzing Career Paths and Exceeding Expectations

We can all contribute to creating a more inclusive workforce for Portland and propel the efforts to put historically marginalized young people into thriving wage jobs. This year’s POIC Work Connections event allowed attendees to see the transformation POIC facilitates through comprehensive wrap-around services.

During the program, panel moderator and POIC Pre-Apprenticeship Program Coordinator Charles Maningo emphasized the vital role of providing holistic support to individuals facing barriers to employment. His insights shed light on the importance of addressing the multifaceted challenges that many job seekers encounter.

Construction Pre-Apprenticeship trainees Gabriel and Ramone shared their journeys, highlighting the profound impact of personalized mentorship provided by POIC. Their experiences with dedicated mentors showcased how guidance tailored to individual needs can pave the way for success. Gabriel further emphasized the significance of supplementary services like rent assistance and therapy, illustrating the importance of addressing professional development and personal well-being in challenging circumstances.

The stories shared at the Work Connections program are a powerful reminder of the potential for positive change when communities come together to support one another. As POIC continues to champion inclusivity and support, let these narratives inspire us to redouble our efforts to create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
