Portland OIC reconnects alienated at-risk youth affected by poverty, family instability and homelessness; with high school education and work training programs underwritten by a "system of care" to provide the personal and emotional support necessary to engage in school and training to the age of stable maturity at 25.

 

 

Portland OIC is a non-profit education management organization, established for 42 years, currently serving over 475 students and trainees annually, across three programs:

  • Rosemary Anderson High School - A fully accredited community-based, alternative High School enrolling over 200 students annually

       -    90% graduation rate

       -    Open-door admissions available to all students

       -    Caters to those who have failed in the public school system

       -    Most are on average two academic years behind their peers

       -    Many graduate after age 19

  • Transitions Program - Rosemary Anderson Advanced Education Supporting 100 High School graduates who have moved on to college, full or part-time

  • Work Training Programs

          Placing 70 trainees in work yearly, growing to a projected 150 by 2011

          Partnering with local business advocates who provide support ranging from tours and seminars, mentoring, internships and paid work

  • Four Social Work specialists

  • Crisis Counseling, family outreach, substance abuse

  • Housing connections for homeless youth

  • Teen parenting resource

  • Peer to peer mentoring and role models

  • Adult community mentors

               -    Code of conduct and attendance contracts

               -    Career Counseling

  • Resume, application and interview training

  • Pre and post internship maturity assessments

  • Life skills assessments and coaching
