In a groundbreaking development, Microchip Technology secured a substantial grant of $162M under the federal CHIPS Act, marking a historic moment for Oregon's semiconductor industry. The announcement was made during a Microchip Technology press conference that POIC CEO and President Joe McFerrin II attended.

This pivotal investment not only propels Microchip's growth but also aligns with a broader commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the semiconductor sector. In a parallel effort, POIC and Microchip will collaborate with other community partners to create pathways, training, and placement opportunities specifically designed for women and people of color in the semiconductor industry.

Microchip CEO Ganesh Moorthy and Vice President of Microchip's Fab 4 Operations, Dan Malinaric, took the stage to celebrate Microchip's growth and shed light on the significant career opportunities that will arise for Oregonians with the ongoing $800M expansion at Microchip’s semiconductor factory in Gresham.

The state of Oregon awarded $11M to Microchip in September, supporting the Gresham expansion, which is projected to add 300 jobs to the site. The recent federal funding is expected to accelerate and amplify the company's growth in Oregon, significantly boosting the state's economy.

Representative Janelle Bynum, Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall, and Mt. Hood Community College President Lisa Skari were among the notable attendees and speakers at the press conference, sharing their collective support in bringing more job opportunities for Oregonians through Microchip's expansion. Through our strategic partnership with Microchip, we are actively building and shaping our very own semiconductor program to provide valuable opportunities for our participants. This initiative, running in parallel with our successful Construction Pre-Apprenticeship and CHEF Program, aims to cultivate diverse career pathways. By engaging in these programs, participants not only acquire valuable skills but also gain access to high-paying, competitive jobs. Our commitment is not just to make these opportunities accessible but to make them achievable for every participant!
