Rosemary Anderson High School is renowned for its commitment to student success. It extends its reach beyond traditional academic offerings to cultivate a comprehensive environment where every student can flourish in the classroom and on the court. With a basketball team established for nearly seven years, RAHS has actively participated in the STARS league, exemplifying its dedication to providing opportunities beyond academics and serving non-traditional high school students. This collaboration integrates the transformative power of athletics with the guidance and support of mentoring, offering a unique platform for students to excel both on and off the court, fostering personal growth, academic achievement, and a profound sense of belonging.

Breaking Barriers Through Basketball

The RAHS basketball team is instrumental in helping students break stereotypes and realize their potential. Students learn resilience, teamwork, and determination by participating in the team, empowering them to challenge societal expectations and embrace their capabilities. Through athletic competition, they gain valuable life skills such as discipline, perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship, preparing them for success beyond the court.

In the summer of 2021, POIC launched the Public Safety Village (The Village), which helps support and guide multiple grassroots, Black-led organizations, including the STARS mentoring program. This initiative actively engages and bolsters a collective of 11 organizations, fostering a network of empowerment and resilience.

The partnership between the STARS mentoring program and POIC + RAHS plays a crucial role in gun violence intervention efforts. It also demonstrates a mutual commitment to foster personal development, offer mentorship, and generate opportunities for young people to succeed, promoting a more robust and unified community.
