Dr. Charlene Williams: Leading Oregon's Education

In the world of education, it's not every day that we come across an individual whose passion, dedication, and vision leave an indelible mark. Dr. Charlene Williams is one such exceptional educator whose journey from her early days at Portland Community College to her recent appointment as the interim director of the Oregon Department of Education is nothing short of inspiring. We are immensely proud to have had her serve our organization.

A Journey Rooted in Education


Starting at Rosemary Anderson High School in 2002, Dr. Williams embarked on a remarkable journey that impacted the community. Over seven years, she assumed the pivotal position of Director of Education and eventually ascended to the role of principal.

Rosemary Anderson High School, an alternative educational institution and part of Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (POIC), served as a sanctuary for at-risk youth under Dr. Williams' visionary leadership. She spearheaded a revolution in educational practices during her tenure, championing innovation and inclusivity. Her unwavering dedication was evident in her tireless efforts to dismantle the barriers that hindered students' progress while extending opportunities to those who needed them the most. Dr. Williams' impact at Rosemary Anderson High School was marked by a profound commitment to the betterment of the community and the educational futures of its students.

 

Key Priorities for Dr. Charlene Williams

As Dr. Williams assumes her role as the interim director of the Oregon Department of Education, she carries with her a powerful vision and a set of key priorities that will shape the future of education in Oregon:
