Director of Education

Location: Portland, Oregon

Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Reports to: Program Manager

Salary: $98,010 - $137,214

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for engaging school leadership teams and teachers in a collaborative process to develop a shared vision for the school’s transformation journey via a comprehensive transformation implementation plan aligned with the school’s vision, mission, and goals by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties:

  • Engages school leadership teams and teachers collaboratively to develop a shared vision for the school’s transformation journey via a comprehensive transformation implementation plan aligned with the school’s vision, mission, and goals.

  • Ensures that all voices are heard and valued in shaping the school’s future direction.

  • Provides coaching and support for school leaders to develop their capacity for instructional leadership, team building, and fostering a positive school culture.

  • Utilizes the four-step data analysis technique to identify trends, strengths, and areas for growth within the school community.

  • Guides leaders in using data to inform strategic planning and instructional interventions.

Job Duties:

  • Coaches school leaders in effective instructional leadership practices, such as providing meaningful feedback via the MEET Framework and Six Steps to Effective Feedback, building instructional coherence via the core instructional model, providing real-time coaching via classroom walkthroughs, modeling best instructional strategies, and creating structures for teacher collaboration and growth.

  •  Advocates for equity and inclusivity in all aspects of schooling, ensuring that policies, practices, and curricula reflect and honor the diversity of the school community.

  • Establishes and nurtures collaborative structures for ongoing professional learning and teacher collaboration focused on student achievement and continuous improvement.

  • Coaches school leaders to cultivate a culture of reflection, feedback, and continuous improvement at all levels of the school community to effectively lead change and build capacity amongst all staff members, focusing on learning from successes and challenges to drive positive change via plan-do-study-act cycles.

  •  Builds positive partnerships with families, caregivers, and community stakeholders to support student success and enhance school-community relationships.

Experience/Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of related experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience working in Educational Leadership, school improvement, or related field.

  • This position requires demonstrated success in leading school transformation efforts and driving positive change in student outcomes with a strong understanding of data analysis techniques and experience utilizing data to inform decision-making and monitor progress.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and ability to advocate for the needs of all students.

  • Proficiency in technology tools and platforms for instructional delivery, data analysis, and communication.
