A History of Excellence

Before we delve into the exciting developments of this year, let's take a moment to appreciate the rich history of Rosemary Anderson High School and Middle School. Founded in 1983, Rosemary Anderson has been committed to the success of at-risk youth, providing students with the highest quality education, mentoring, and wrap-around support. Over the years, we have built a reputation of unwavering dedication to helping students succeed academically and personally. RAHS operates four high school campuses across Portland and one middle school.

High Enrollment Figures

This year, schools have seen an impressive surge in enrollment. Our Middle School had groundbreaking enrollment and attendance in its first week. Principal Alvin Johnson Sr. shared that there was a 57% increase from last year’s enrollment. At our East Campus, Principal Erin Kent reports over 70% daily attendance. Critical factors in the rise in enrollment and attendance are the engaging activities in the first week, helping to bridge the attendance gap. With many returning and new faces on our campuses, Lents Campus Principal Jeffrey McGee said it best. “We plan to exceed our enrollment from last year and serve every student with the care and concern they deserve.” As students fill the hallways and classrooms, there are a lot of new opportunities for our students at Rosemary Anderson. With the addition of the Rosemary Anderson Prep program, teaming up with Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon, our first student council, yearbook, and other education opportunities, our students are excited to take advantage of every learning possibility.

A Bright Future Ahead

As we begin the 2023 school year, the future of Rosemary Anderson High School and Middle School shines bright. Damon Hickok, Principal of North and New Columbia Campuses, gave a testimony to our high enrollment, stating, "I think our enrollment and high attendance had a lot to do with our Back-to-School Night and all our internal partners’ participation in letting students and families know about all of our services." With a strong foundation and tremendous support, our schools will continue to thrive.

For years, Rosemary Anderson Schools have been a stalwart respite from the challenges facing underserved students in the Portland education landscape, offering a second chance and a fresh start to those needing it most. The high 2023 enrollment numbers reflect the success of our holistic approach to education, characterized by inclusivity, support, engaging curriculum, and community involvement. As our schools continue to evolve and inspire, they are shaping the future of many more students and contributing to a diverse, thriving Portland community.
