Celebrating Freedom Day at the Juneteenth Parade

POIC joined in walking the Juneteenth OR 2023 Annual Clara Peoples Freedom Trail Parade for another year! The parade is named after ‘Clara Peoples,’ ‘Mother of Juneteenth,’ who organized and founded Juneteenth, OR, over 50 years ago. Community members lined up MLK on parade day as dozens of Black organizations, including POIC staff and participants, walked down the street.

We celebrate Freedom Day to remember the emancipation of the last enslaved people and the legacy of slavery. Our work as a village and community is to empower the youth, keep them safe, and for an evolving, better future for each generation.
