Eldest child in care of unstable parent moved out of state, inconsistent household income and housing, concerned for welfare of siblings due to mother’s drug addiction. Absent from school, failing in class and working at early age to help sustain family. Chaotic environment distracted from ability to attend school.
Enrolled mid-year at RAHS due to open door admissions policy. Engaged in full range of programs and support services. Enrolled in work training programs and summer internships, where he was offered part-time work after school. Enrolled in community college and gaining strong grades.
Gang affected, juvenile justice involved, substance abuse issues. Referred to RAHS as a Junior due to involvement in juvenile justice, lacking credits, attendance. Took advantage of programs available mentor, YEEP, teen parent, Transitions, participated in Summer intern program at Auto Mechanic shop.
Graduated from RAHS in June 2009. Attending PCC on a Scholarship and recently changed major to criminal justice. Planning to pursue bachelor’s degree and work in justice field. Active in Transitions Program and young parent group.
Immigrated with single father from Haiti at age of 7. Had to learn English. Came to RAHS as a junior due to being behind in credits and needing a smaller learning environment. Lived in single parent household until problems with parent forced her to move out on her own.
Struggled with homelessness but still graduated on time. Attending PCC, had baby, lives in own apartment/stable housing and works at same job for 2 years. Active in the Transitions Program.
Graduated from a different vocational high school on time. Living in poverty and experienced housing challenges, and family chaos. Alienated and had trouble finding mentorship for direction after High School.
Became involved with POIC by enrolling in summer works internship programs. Worked as seasonal firefighter and forest service clerical worker. Enrolled in POIC work training program and completed wildlife introduction class in partnership with Forest Service.
