We Got Your Back! Providing 2,000 Backpacks to Underserved Youth

Presenting Sponsor Bank of America and Platinum Founding Sponsor The Boeing Company participate in Rosemary Anderson High School’s fourth annual backpack and school supply drive.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Rosemary Anderson High School’s (RAHS) East Campus is hosting their fourth annual “We Got Your Back!” backpack and school supply giveaway. The event is open to all members of the K-12 East County Community and aims to ease the financial burden many families face when purchasing school supplies.

“We Got Your Back!” was created to provide support to the East County community, which was engulfed in poverty, gentrification, and a lack of services. As supporters of the program, Bank of America, The Boeing Company, and many additional members of the local business community, donate backpacks and supplies for underserved students, ensuring their preparedness for the coming school year.

RAHS has donated nearly 4,000 backpacks filled with supplies in the previous three years, and is prepared to give away 2,000 more at this year’s event.

“We want students to feel confident and have pride when starting off the school year,” says Joe McFerrin II, President/CEO of Rosemary Anderson High School. “It’s important for students and their families to know we are here to support their educational success. Providing them with the essential tools so they can be prepared to learn is an integral part of this process.”

The annual “We Got Your Back!” event helps gather the community to celebrate these students. There will be a fun, festive atmosphere with special appearances by local emergency service departments and the Blazer’s mascot, Blaze.

“Bank of America is committed to helping improve peoples’ financial lives here in Portland,” said Roger Hinshaw, Oregon and SW Washington Market President for Bank of America. “Working together with our community partners to provide families with the necessary supplies associated with school readiness helps them better manage expenses and ensures kids are well equipped to focus on learning.”

The event will take place on August 31, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the RAHS East Campus, located in the Rockwood Plaza at 2208 SE 182nd Avenue 97233. Students must be present to receive a backpack and are encouraged to arrive before 2 p.m., as lines start early.
