Referred in her sophomore year from a public school due to attendance and behavioral issues. Removed from a family with substance abuse problems, and sent to live with grandparents. Struggled in public school due to lack of support, and had become very withdrawn and quiet.

Successfully completed a summer internship program with OHSU and was offered an ongoing Internship earning an educational stipend as a biomedical research lab assistant. She is currently enrolled at PCC in Immunology, with the goal to go on to a 4-year degree in Epidemiology.

Struggled with substance abuse and a gang-impacted home environment. He was expelled from public school at 14 after involvement in the juvenile justice system. Attended RAHS full-time and worked part-time 20 hours a week with support of POIC counselors.

Successfully completed a degree at PCC in Art and Graphic Design and has recently acquired part-time work at a graphics company after completing a successful Summer internship. He is enrolling at PSU to complete a Fine Arts degree in 2013.

Living with limited resources in a single parent household, in a gang impacted environment. Expelled from public school for high-risk behavior. Referred to RAHS and became involved with the mentor program, the MIKE program (kidney education project based learning), and Leadership Academy for 3 years.

Attending PCC, and enrolled with his part-time work employer in an internship for college students, which is guaranteed by the Federal Government. Saved money from fire-fighting work to buy a car. Plans to transfer to OSU to study Engineering.

Raised in gang affected family with an absent father. Expelled from public school due to failing grades and attendance problems, and referred to RAHS in 11th grade. Portland OIC counselors assisted her to connect with teen housing support and furnishings for independent housing at 18 years of age.

Currently working full-time in a retail position set up with POIC work training, and living independently with the father of her child in a stable environment. Graduated with Medical Assistant Certificate from Concorde Career College. Planning to work in medical field and continue on with a degree in Nursing.
