Disengaged and failing in public school with anger management problems resulting from family tragedy in early childhood. Alienated, he had attendance problems, and little optimism for his future - “If it wasn’t for RAHS I would be dead or in jail”.
Successful senior in school, tracked in honors English classes. Developed a love of literature, and close mentor relationship with teachers. Involved in Leadership Academy, Student Council, excelling in computer classes and video game design competition.
One of two girls in devout family where education for girls was not considered a priority. Family fractured by divorce. Forced to move towns and schools multiple times due to unstable employment of parents. Dropped out of school for a year. Impacted by sibling pregnancy.
Graduated RAHS, with strong ties to many teachers, and leadership role in school programs. Engaged in POIC work internships for two summers with the Lewis and Clark Neurology department. Enrolled at PCC working on Transfer degree with plan to transfer to 4-year college to pursue teaching.
Raised in single parent household with limited resources and support. Referred to RAHS due to erratic attendance in public school. Struggled with positive view of her future and confidence to engage in school.
Immediately engaged in school and was invited to join Leadership Academy. Connected to faculty with her personable style and creativity. Took the initiative to develop artwork and creative direction for a range of school materials, and volunteered to speak at events to promote the work of the school.
Refugee immigrant from the war in Liberia, stranded in Liberia at the age of 14, while her parents and siblings moved to the US, due to a problem with her paperwork. Could not succeed in public school due to the size of classes and the barrier of not being fluent in English.
After very committed hard work, she graduated with one of the highest G.P.A. of the class, and has been at RAHS for her senior year. Connected to the POIC Transitions program counselors and planning to go to PCC to study social work and medical assistant work.
